Hello and welcome to a Style Imitating Art review featuring all the wonderful interpretations that were sent to me this week.
What is Style Imitating Art?
tyle Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The following Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog. This is that Wednesday for me!
This Week’s Inspirational Work

I chose “Cylyx”, which, in 1951, was a groundbreaking design by Lucienne Day. I presented three different colorways to chose from, the original green, yellow, and brown.
Let’s Get to the Review!
First, we have Reni of Reni’s Odd’s and Sods

Rene went for the brown Calyx, and is wearing light brown linen trousers. Her top, also an abstract flower print matches the colors in the brown print. There’s even some olive green.
Next is Sally of Within a World of My Own in St. Paul

Sally was inspired by the straight lines and color palette of the olive Calyx to put together this outfit. She also made an upcycled paperboard pendant painted in olive, black, and gold to bring in the half-circle shape. How cool is that!
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey

Salazar’s printed dress is a perfect match to the print of the fabric! She also added a blouse on top of it as a nod to the olive green background of the original design. Her brooch is a nod to the print as well. I love this dress. It even has a 50’s vibe that is just too cool!
Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge

Shelbee used the original olive green print as her inspiration. The fifties meets a very cool Bohemian look!
And the there is me.

Again, I colored blocked my way through this one and used the brown and yellow background prints. I’ll admit that the brown linen pants and linen cream vest have been worn together before. But, the grey and yellow is a new idea that I can’t wait to wear this Fall. The yellow sweater has been underworn and maybe this will put it to some use!
This wraps up this Review for this round of Style Imitating Art. Thank you everyone for your wonderful interpretation of my second curation for this year.
That’s it. Take care, everyone, and see you next week when Shelbee presents her first artwork.
Stay creative (with this group, that’s an easy one)!

Amazing to see how many different style directions were explored in response to the same inspiration piece!

I love how different each outfit is but how true we all remain to our own personal style. Fun pick this week! I adore the 1950s print and color palettes. I have something a bit bright picked out for the next round. Again! I seem to want all the bright things this summer!

I am always amazed at how one (or more in this case) art work can inspire so many different looks! They are all so unique and so wonderful!

Yes, we had the gammit of ideas, didn’t we? That’s what I like about this challenge-using the art as a jumping off point and find how your particular style can fit in with that work. Sometimes it’s a little hard but a worthwhile endeavor. And I think it’s fun!
