Welcome to my interpretation for this round of Style Imitating Art
A Little Background
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The following Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.
This Weeks Curator
This week is Shelbee’s first turn as curator!
This Week’s Inspirational Image
Shelbee has picked an illustration from one of the best-loved (IMO), illustrators of America, Norman Rockwell.
Norman Rockwell’s “Sunday Morning” illustration which appeared on the May 16, 1959, cover of the Saturday Evening Post

My Take
The dad hit me as being the center of interest in this work. His posture (and sitting in that awesome Mid-Cen chair) along with his bright red robe with the contrasting striped jams just drew me right in. That’s where I went with my inspiration.

A little Bit of Red Here and There
I generally use red in my accessories and I pulled out a few for this one. So let’s talk accessories first. Starting at the top, I am wearing a bright red wool Beret. I’m pretty sure it was the last Beret I bought. I’ll just mention an ETSY store, that has always caught my eye, but I have never gotten around to ordering anything from them. They are Jedrzejko and are located in Poland). The rainbow collection of Berets is just wonderful!

Next would be my wool/silk Ann Klein scarf that I bought back in the ’80s. I can either wear it with the red wool showing or the red paisley silk pattern showing. It has been a favorite throughout all these years. Today I’m wearing it with the silk on the outside.
I just picked up my red leather gloves last year from eBay. They are definitely the newest item in this whole ensemble.

My bag is a Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag that I’ve had for a few years. The Love Bags are one of my favorite designs and I have three of them. She has really downsized her online collection. However, you still can find some pretty cool ones on Poshmark and eBay. This red patent leather reptile print is my favorite one of the three that I own. It is actually on eBay right now.

I finished my reds out with a pair of red patent “Creepers” (basically Oxfords) by Modern Vice. Modern Vice makes all their shoes in New York City but since Covid has limited what they concentrate on, which is their boots.
Their shoes tend to be a little too narrow for me and it took a very long time to break these in. Because of this, I’m afraid there won’t be any more Modern Vice in my future. However, if I ever make it to New York, I would love to visit their showroom and factory.

Navy Rest of the Way
There is a lot of blue in the mom and kids outfits so my three main pieces are navy. The Wool crepe blazer is by Laura Ashley. Do you remember how popular Laura Ashley was during the ’90s? I’ve had this jacket since 1996. Back in the day, Laura Ashley had outlet stores and that is where I found this jacket.
The jeans are my trusty Madewell’s. I’ve had them for a few years now and consider them a sound investment. The striped top is really a tunic that I usually wear when the weather warms up. But, I discovered that it tucks in rather nicely and goes great with blazers. It’s a Ralph Lauren that I think I picked up at Marshall’s about four years ago. I was really after something in striped cotton but this design was perfect so I decided to forgo my cotton search and brought home this polyester crepe.
That finishes me out.
Now It’s Your Turn
Shelbee will be putting together her review to be published Wednesday. If you have an entry, please send it to her at shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com by tomorrow. Hope to see you there!
Take care and style on!

Oh, Terri! This is such a chic outfit! And, you really embodied the painting! In my comment on Shelbee’s post, I mentioned I completely missed the red in the painting! I was so laser focused on the stripes and pleats! Love those shoes!

I absolutely LOVE your take on this picture, Terri! You look gorgeous in blue and red. I love everything about this, especially those shoes. I would have the same problem as you though…I struggle with shoes when they’re a bit narrow like that!

Terri, this outfit turned out brilliantly! I was totally focused on the father’s pajamas, too. Red, navy, and white is one of my all time favorite color combinations, too. Your red accessories are all exquisite. I am especially dying over your red creepers and need to go check out that brand. Although narrow footwear doesn’t really work for me either. I did just favorite that Etsy shop though. You know I have a particular fondness for berets as well! They do have a wonderful collection of vibrant colors to feed my addiction!

Thank you, Shelbee-This was a fun one. Modern Vice really doesn’t do anything but boots now-sort of a downer. This was a really good one for you to start out with.

Thank you, that beret store is fantastic. I stopped wearing berets for a while (the wigs took over) but I wanted to break them out this year for a little bit.

I am loving all of the red accents! I have a pair of red gloves I never wear since I cannot stand things on my fingers: maybe I should cut the finger tips off because the only pair I wear is the one that is fingerless. I really can see the inspiration artwork in your look. I love Norman Rockwell’s art.

Thank you-I did enjoy putting this one together because I really like my red shoes. It so funny how we are absolutely opposite on the glove thing. I can’t stand having my finger tips cold and throw on the gloves the minute it hits 50 degrees LOL. For me, mitts are for fairly warm days or inside the house most of the time.

Nice gloves, I never have found a replacement after losing one of my purple driving gloves.
