Welcome to my interpretation for this round of Style Imitating Art.
A Little Background
Style Imitating Art is hosted currently by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspirational image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The next Wednesday, the curator shares all the submissions on her blog.
This Week’s Curator

Salazar is our host for this week and she chose a National Park poster of the Grand Canyon, which I had the privilege to visit six years ago. I admit that I have not been to many places, but the Grand Canyon is the most awe-inspiring experience that I’ve had. Hopefully, someday we will make it back because I’m sure, the Grand Canyon doesn’t ever get old.
My Choices for this Challenge

I decided to pick a few of pieces that I actually wore six years ago to the Grand Canyon. I used three items that were in my capsule wardrobe for that trip. Those picked were a brown denim vest, a brown leather bag (semi-backback), and a vintage silk scarf.
Bought from our Farm and Home store, I’ve had this vest with its faux fur collar for over fifteen years and it seems to be a timeless piece for me because I still pull it out and wear it from time to time. The label says, Cripple Creek Ranchwear, which has always appealed to me. You can’t see, but it is lined in a beautiful pink paisley print.

I think you can tell that Lynnie was having a great time while we were taking photos.
Although I didn’t take the sweater that I am wearing for this challenge to the Grand Canyon, it was the one that I found to accompany this vest. Found on eBay, it is by The Limited and 50% wool and 50% acrylic. It is fairly thick and I love the nice tall turtleneck.
When we went on our trip, I wanted a bag that wouldn’t be too hard on my shoulders and one I could organize my stuff. I found this one on Poshmark right before we left. Leather and even leather lined, it is by Perlina, which I don’t think is in business anymore.
The scarf is a vintage Bill Blass ( I wore it a lot on the trip). My boots are by Pikolino and the socks are some wool ones that I knitted. I am also wearing my 100% USA-produced Alpaca felt hat. I think it is one of the coolest hats I own, sort of an Australian look. The Madewell jeans are going on their eighth year, I think. It’s been a while since I bought them.

Niki decided to also make an appearance.
This was a fun look to put together because I got to wear some of my favorite older things.

That’s it, I’m done.
I hope this art inspires you to create a look and that you will join us. Send a photo of your SIA-inspired outfit along with a small blurb on how you were inspired to Salazar whose email is 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com by tomorrow. She will share the submissions on her blog this Wednesday.
Anyone can participate and you certainly do not have to have a blog.
If you do share your inspirations on Instagram use the hashtag #StyleImitatingArt so we know you are there. You can also tag us in the images. Our Instagram names are @terrigardner_meadowtree, @14shadesofgrey, and @shelbeeontheedge.
Time to go and see you later!

Hi, Terri:
I’m a new subscriber to your blog. I’m curious why you are wearing your leather bag on your shoulder. For travel/exploring, isn’t it more practical to be hands-free with a backpack or cross-body bag?

I guess there weren’t so many crossbody bags around six years ago. Today, a crossbody is my go-to. But, I wanted to use as many things as I possibly could from our trip in this challenge. A backpack would have been too much because I wasn’t actually hiking. Thanks for visiting.

Love this outfit, Terri! I think it’s just so chic and fun. Your Pikolinos boots are gorgeous. I love that brand but haven’t bought anything from them lately. Lynnie and Niki look like they’re enjoying your gorgeous weather!

Terri, this outfit gives me all the Grand Canyon vibes from your boots to your vest to your awesome hat. I really love that you chose these specific pieces because you wore them to visit the Grand Canyon. Fabulous interpretation! Lynne and Niki are so cute. I bet they would enjoy a run through the Grand Canyon!

Thanks Shelbee, well-I wore almost all of them. Since we flew, I left the hat at home.
