Style Imitating Art’s Roundup for Chimú Feathered Tunic

Hello and welcome to a Style Imitating Art Roundup for this round of which I am the host. I picked a limited color palette with a highly textured surface with this pick. It did produce good pieces from all of you.

As I mentioned last time, I was originally planning that my last picks for my host tenure would be from The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. However, I decided I didn’t want to question the copyright issues that are involved with that, so I found a public domain work at the Chicago Art Institute.

When I saw this 16th-century tunic, I was blown away, not only by its age (16th century) but by the still rich colors (of course, half my closet is these colors-so I was probably a bit prejudiced).

So, let’s start the fashion parade.

Reni of ReniBriefly

Reni submitted a style that she had previously put together because the colors and the vibe of this look matched the art piece very well. She is correct and it is on point, especially with the colors.

Sally from Within A World of My Own

Sally incorporated the tunic’s dark brown/cream/orange colors and animal motifs into my outfit, which felt just right for the fall season. I agree and think this work is bringing out beautiful Fall looks from us all.

Marsha of Marsha in the MIddle

Marsha used a sweater with a distinctive weave.  She also added a tee with a sequin fox in the rusty colors of the artwork. The scarf pulls in some of the geometric lines and colors of the art piece. She definitely made her individual style work for this piece.

Rachelle of Gardner-Roe.com

This was a surprise! My daughter Rachelle decided to participate. She told me, she couldn’t do the colors but had the feathers covered. She included a feather motif top (which she thrifted), some very long feathered earrings (have no idea where she got those), and finally, paying homage to the felines on the piece, a pair of Fabletics leggings that I got for her last year. And there’s also the feather necklace. She surprised me because I had no idea she was going to do this.

The Hosts

Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey

Salazar went with the shades of brown and yellow in the tunic, and the pups on her shirt are a nod to all the animals. I call this classic with a twist. I love those cropped pants with the traditional blazer. She nailed it!

Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge

Shelbee wore a white faux fur vest to represent the feathers as well as feather earrings and a feather necklace. She added an infinity scarf with a bird print to represent the birds on the tunic. And then I kept the rest of my outfit in the same autumnal color palette as the tunic for an edgy fall outfit. She did say her legs got a little cold! As usual, a very well-thought-out and complicated outfit.

And Then, Me

I stayed with the colors of the tunic, adding a feather pin for the nod to texture. Take the feather pin away, and this is what you would generally see me in during the fall; jeans, boots, and a blazer.

This wraps up this Review for this round of Style Imitating Art. Thank you everyone for your wonderful interpretation of my curation. It was wonderful to see such gorgeous ideas.

That’s it. Take care, everyone, and see you next week when Shelbee hosts.

Stay creative (with this group, that’s an easy one)!

  1. Fall colors and textures, feathers, animal motifs, geometric patterns – I think we had all the bases covered between us! I loved how this piece of inspired clothing art inspired outfits 500 years later.
