Hello and welcome to my sixth selection of Style Imitating Art for the year!
Style Imitating Art
Style Imitating Art, at the moment, is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and me.
Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The following Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

Stilllife With Nuts, Candy, and Flowers by Clara Peeters, 1611
I went back, way back for this one. Clara Peeters worked at a time when women just didn’t have many chances of outside getting married. However, a few very talented ladies did prevail in a man’s world. Clara Peeters was one of these few.
Not much is known about her. Historians know that she was a Flemish still-life painter who was active between 1607 and 1621. She individually signed thirty-one works. The general consensus is that she retired upon marriage. Wikipedia has a nice article about her if you would like to find out more about this immensely talented woman.
I picked this work because the color is absolutely deep, rich, and glorious. I just saw cooler weather and fall written all over this work. This work is currently on display at the Museo del Prado.
Have Some Fun & Join Us
Go take a look in your closet and see what you have. Put something together and send it to me at meadowtreestyle@gmail.com by a week from tomorrow, October 4th. I love getting those emails!
I think that’s it for now,

This painting is gorgeous, Terri! I love all of the colors and objects. I’m pretty sure I can handle this as long as I remember!!! Isn’t it sad how little we know about the lives of women centuries ago? So much history lost…

What a beautiful painting! And I think I have just the thing. It’s amazing that a woman got noticed during that time period. But her work is extraordinary.

I thought this would have some nice jumping off points. There are actually a few more women from this area to learn about too, but I decided to go with Clara.
