Hello and welcome to a new round of Style Imitating Art!
About Style Imitating Art
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The following Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.
This Weeks Curator
Salazar picked this round’s work.
Salazar chose this watercolor by Carl Larsson. She was drawn to the soft watercolor tones, the delicate lines, and the contrast between the flowers and the woman’s dark dress, and thought these elements could easily be interpreted in an outfit.

He mainly used his family in his works and I would guess that this is a portrait of his wife and one of his children. It is a miracle that Larrson became an artist at all. A short biography of his story is HERE.
I am especially drawn to his wife’s color-blocked outfit; the black dress, white hat, and blue or blue-grey apron. I think you could make a case either way. But those orange lilies! Those are calling to me too. I honestly don’t know which way I’m going to go on this one!

I think that’s it for now.

About Style Imitating Art
It is such a pretty paining with lots of sartorial inspiration! I just got a dress in the same blue as her pinafore so I think I’m going with that but those flowers are all so pretty, too! I am excited to see what everyone comes up with!

I think so too and you could go with two different directions on this one-emphasize the orange flowers or go with the neutrals of the mother’s dress. It’s going to be a hard choice.

This is such a beautiful piece of art. I love everything about it! And, I took my photos today!!! We are packing and moving in a few weeks so I’ve got to be organized. I actually had the perfect outfit…at least, I think so! I can’t believe I’ve actually got something done early for once!!

Hello, Marsha-I’m happy that you have yours figured out. I actually don’t but have a few things as candidates to try together. It is a beautiful little watercolor.
