Welcome to my interpretation for this round of Style Imitating Art.
A Little Background
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The following Wednesday, the curator shares all the submissions on her blog,

Salazar picked this round’s work.

Castle and Sun, 1928
Klee, was a German artist who was actually born in Switzerland. Working in the early 20th century (he passed away in 1940), it is hard to pigeonhole him into one gendre. He has been associated with Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism, and Abstraction.
As an art teacher, I always had fun developing ideas featuring his works with elementary students. I’ve always been quite fond of Paul Klee. I smiled a bit when Salazar sent me this one for us to feature.
My Take

Immediately, upon seeing this work, my Pendleton sheath dress just sprang into my mind. I found it during the Summer of 2013 when we were up in Minnisota attending a wedding. On the way home, while still in Minnisota, we saw an outlet mall with a Pendleton outlet. Needless to say, we had a great time!
Between the color and the geometrical print, I think this dress fits the painting perfectly. I have always liked how the princess seams turn back to the side seams for front pockets. I really don’t wear it that much but still appreciate the style and so keep it around.
Accessories
The colors on the necklace go perfectly with the dress but I probably wouldn’t wear this necklace with it. I really just don’t like them together. But for today, I went with it.
The sandals, which are old as the dress has three different textures, sueded, reptile textured, and patent leather. Picked up at TJ Maxx, they appealed to me. But I think, I have usually worn them, with a pair of brown linen pants. But since, I decided to use one of my vintage Rodo bags, I decided to go with these. Both have brown reptile and have a textured surface.

The only two other things I used today are a thrifted wide bangle and some triple large hoop earrings that I just picked up on sale from TJ Maxx this week. It was the first time since pre-pandemic that I had been to TJ’s. It was fun to go in and look around.

A close-up of everything for today.
This is a little dressier than I’ve been doing for SIA lately, and a bit classic. Here’s another way, I wore my dress about five years ago. I kept the accessories a light tan. I could have done the exact same look for today (I still have everything in this photo), but hey, SIA is the time to try different things.

That wraps it up for me so now it’s your turn.
I hope this art inspires you to create a look and that you will join us. Send a photo of your SIA-inspired outfit along with a small blurb on how you were inspired to Salazar whose email is 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com by tomorrow. She will share the submissions on her blog this Wednesday.
Anyone can participate and you certainly do not have to have a blog.
If you do share your inspirations on Instagram use the hashtag #StyleImitatingArt so we know you are there. You can also tag us in the images. Our Instagram names are @terrigardner_meadowtree, @14shadesofgrey, and @shelbeeontheedge.
Salazar will be putting together her review to be published Wednesday. If you have an entry, please send it to her at 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com by tomorrow. Hope to see you there!
Take care and style on!

Terri, this dress is so perfect for this painting. The colors and the geometric print couldn’t be more on point. And I really like your layered necklace (the center beads on each strand remind me of M&Ms and that makes me smile). Your clutch and shoes are also both lovely pieces. Really great outfit!

Thank you, Shelbee. This dress is one of those classics that I think probably won’t go out of style…a sheath is a sheath LOL

This dress is a perfect interpretation. The checked print, the colours – big compliment!
I have to skip this turn. I have nothing appropriate for Paul Klee…

Thank you! I will admit that I was very happy when I saw this Paul Klee. As we say here, this dress was a “no brainer.” Hopefully, next week will be better for your closet!

If trophies were given for these challenges, you would definitely win! This dress is so spot on perfect!!! I love the accessories, too. I like that necklace, too, but I can see why you don’t love it with the dress. It’s like it’s too matchy, right? I’m skipping SIA for a few weeks more. Hope to rejoin in September!

Thank you, yes, when I saw the painting, this dress was a no brainer. I also think this neckline is wrong for the length of the necklace. Keep watch, because if you have something in your archives that work for the challenges, just sent those in….I use to do that before I started hosting. Why reinvent the wheel when you already have something, especially with your moving a whole household.

Sorry, following up on an older one, but that dress was just perfect for the work and I don’t think I had seen the dress before. I actually liked the necklace though.:) !
