Hubert Duprat in collaboration with Caddisflies

Welcome to a new Style Imitating Art challenge!

If you are new to Style Imitating Art, here’s what it’s all about.

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspirational image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The following Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

This Week’s Curator

Caddisfly art work featuring gold, pearls, and a tad bit of turquoise

Salazar is our curator for this round and has picked a pretty amazing piece.

Caddisfly larvae build themselves a protective house of stones (or anything they can get) with some of the stickiest sticky tape on Earth. Artist Hubert Duprat tried an experiment by giving them gold and pearls and look what they did-pretty artsy larvae pods.

This has to be one of the most interesting art projects, I’ve seen. Everyone has Caddisflies, or it seems in the Northern Hemisphere. I had no problem finding an article about them from The Missouri Department of Wildlife.

I thought it would be interesting to see the art in the process. Below are Caddisflies leaving their larvae.

  • Have Some Fun & Join Us

Go take a look in your closet and see what you have. Put something together and send it to Salazar at by Tuesday, March 28th. I think we should all have gold and pearls so this should be and interesting one because everyone is going to have different ideas on how to combine their gold and pearls with their style…can’t wait to see the answers to this one!
