Hello and welcome to a new round of Style Imitating Art.
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspirational image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The following Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.
This Week’s Curator
This round is created by Shelbee.

Shelbee has chosen a 2001 portrait of the queen by now-deceased British artist Lucien Freud. I think you can imagine, by looking at it, this portrait did cause some controversies when it was finished. Although it is held in high regard in the art world, it has been dubbed, as “It’s a Travesty, Your Majesty”, and that, “It makes her look like one of her corgis who has suffered a stroke. “
Funny thing, but I didn’t think of any of those. My first reaction was, “Oh, my gosh, she has THE tiara on, which is The George IV State Diadem. This special piece, made in 1820, has been worn by four queens so far: Queen Victoria, Alexandra, Mary, and Elizabeth II. It’s one of the more symbolic ones, as it’s only worn by queens or Queen Consorts. That means that Camilla can wear it and I wonder if she will for Charles’s Coronation. That will be interesting to see. My money is on that she will.

Have Some Fun & Join Us
OK, I know that most of us don’t have priceless diamond tiaras in our closets but go take a look in and see what you have. Put something together and send it to Shelbee at shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com by a week from tomorrow, January 31st.
It seems you could go neutral or go bright. There are definitely two different ideas going on in this painting.
I think that’s it for now,
Happy Styling

I was surprised to read there was controversy around this as I think it’s a very good likeness. I will be trying to find my tiara…hahaha!!! But, I do have an idea or two!
