Hello and welcome to my second selection of Style Imitating Art for the year!
Style Imitating Art
Style Imitating Art, at the moment, is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey and me. A reminder that we are looking for a third co-host. The deadline to apply is quickly going to be upon us (January 21st). If you would like to be a part of our team, contact Salazar at 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com.
Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The following Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.
This Week’s Presenter
Again, that would be me.
This Week’s Inspirational Image
For this round, I have picked “The Thousand Quilt” by Elizabeth Shippen Green, which she created in 1900.

Elizabeth Shippen Green was an American Illustrator. She was born on September 1, 1871, to a well-connected Philadelphia family. An ambitious student at the Philadelphia Academy of the Fine Arts, she studied under Thomas Eakins, Thomas Anschutz, and Robert Vonnoh.
Green was publishing before she was eighteen and began making pen and ink drawings and illustrations for quite a few magazines (Including the Saturday Evening Post). In 1901 she signed an exclusive contract with Harper’s Magazine. Green was also a book illustrator. Wikipedia has a very good biography about her and it can be found HERE. She passed away on May 29th, 1954.
I found so many beautiful illustrations that I wanted to use and it was hard to settle on one. But settle, I did and I finally decided to use “The Thousand Quilt”.
I was drawn to the mother/daughter theme with its handing down of the fiber arts from generation to generation. This one did speak to me, I guess you could say.
I think the colors are gorgeous and I hope everyone finds something that they can work with because I do think it is full of ideas.
Have Some Fun & Join Us
Go take a look in your closet and see what you have. Put something together and send it to me at meadowtreestyle@gmail.com by a week from tomorrow, March, 8th. I love getting those emails!
I think that’s it for now,
Happy Styling

Terri, I absolutely love this illustration and the colorful quilt as well as all the other colors and textures in the work. I found the most wonderful sweater in Asheville that is going to be perfect for this one!
