Hello and welcome to a new round of Style Imitating Art!
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee On the Edge, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. The following Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.
This Weeks Curator
This week is Shelbee’s first turn as curator!
This Week’s Inspirational Image
Shelbee has picked an illustration from one of the best-loved (IMO), illustrators of America, Norman Rockwell.
Norman Rockwell’s “Sunday Morning” illustration which appeared on the May 16, 1959, cover of the Saturday Evening Post

Shelbee has a connection with this work. In her words, “This work has a very special meaning to me and the timing is so appropriate. We had a framed copy of this illustration hanging in our kitchen for my entire childhood. I don’t remember where it came from but my mother said it reminded her of our family on Sunday mornings. She would march all of us kids out the door in our Sunday finery while my dad sat there, cigarette in hand, surrounded by his Sunday papers. The man even resembles my father which cracks me up. January 22 was the 27th anniversary of my father’s passing so I wanted to share this piece in honor of him! “
What a wonderful way to start off her co-hosting adventure with us!
Without thinking too much about it in specific terms, I was showing the America I knew and observed to others who might not have noticed.
—Norman Rockwell
Norman Rockwell painted what he knew which was small town life. A brief biography can be found at the website of a meseum dedicated to him in Stockbridge, Massachusetts and can be found HERE.

There is-but strangely for me-I knew exactly what I was going to do when I saw it-if everything looks good together.

Terri, thanks so much for the lovely introduction to my first artwork! I haven’t photographed mine yet but I think I have most of it worked out in my head…if it all looks okay together! I am so excited to see all the different interpretations! I already received one and it is wonderful! Also, I just introduced a new series on my blog with Suzy of The Grey Brunette. We are launching Songful Style as a monthly collaboration where we choose a song and then create an outfit inspired by the music, the lyrics, the video, the album covers, or whatever else related to the song that inspires you. These style challenges are seriously the only things that motivate me to put clothes on these days! Haha.

I have photographed my idea but am far from putting it all together in a blog. I will look forward to see everything.
