About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Daenel of Living Outside the Stacks and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art-inspired outfits. Girl in Rose and Grey, Miss Carmel White by Robert Henri

Robert Henri , an American realistic painter, created this gorgeous portrait in 1911. For me, this is not what he really know for. As one of the founders of the Ash Can School (more a movement than group) and The Eight, he and his fellow painters painted everyday common scenes and folk, mainly in New York. He was also a well respected teacher and his lists of pupils is long.

Born Robert Henry Cozad in Nebraska, he changed his name after his father fled town after murdering a man. This is just a few small snippets about him. There is a lot of good information about him at the Robert Henri Museum and Art Gallary.
