This Week’s Inspirational Art

My pick for this challenge is “Booky-Summer reading led her into fall darkness” by Patty Carroll, which is part of her Anonymous Women series.

This is my own photograph. My oldest daughter owns this work. Patty Carroll’s website HERE. It will take you to her Anonymous Women–Demise series. Bookie is about #35 in a series of about 90 prints. I am hoping that since this is my own photograph of a work that we own gets us around the copyright issue.

Why Did I Pick This Work of Art?

My last two picks for SIA have been crazy colorful. I wanted to have a palette cleanser with softer colors but still there is a lot going on in this piece. Softer colors, yes but quite a bit of texture, pattern and color at play. I feel this gives everyone something to play with.

Patty Carroll and Her Photography

Ever since my youngest daughter introduced me to Patty Carroll’s work, I have been intrigued by it.

She is known for her highly saturated photography. Her Anonymous Women series consists of a 3-part series of studio installations made for the camera, addressing “women and their complicated relationships with domesticity.”

Patty Carroll created these scenes on a set and then photographed them. That is just is amazing to me. I got to talk to her once and she described how friends would come in and help her wrap books or any other tedious tasks

Anonymous Women-Demise is the last of the series.
