Some Great Slacks

I know I’ve made a wise buy if I have so many phone pix of me wearing it that we don’t have to get out the camera for a photo shoot.

This usually means the wise buy goes with tons of things already in my closet. As you may know, I really like items that are versatile. These Leopard slacks are just such an item (from What To Wear on the county seat square in Butler, Missouri, about 50 miles south of Kansas City).

After reviewing a snow leopard top last fall for Covered Perfectly, I’ve been wanting more snow leopard. These slacks fit the bill. The print is smaller with black, white and a grey that has a hint of green tone. They have a fabric content of 75% rayon, 22% nylon and 3% spandex–a wonderful combination in my book. With a wide waistband, they slip on easily and are quite comfortable to wear. I’m going to show five ways I’ve worn them, starting with a Saturday night at the symphony.

Simple but a little dressy: I added a vintage pre-loved black-cropped Juliana Collezione (eBay), which has great buttons and a satin collar. A Rebecca Minkoff Leo clutch, Marc Fisher flats and a silver and mother of pearl neck-piece finish the special evening look.

 

Out to dinner with friends, I added a silver metallic knit top (had it so long, can’t remember where I got it) and a close fitting thrifted Ann Taylor jacket. Of the looks I’m presenting today, this is my favorite because of the Stella & Dot pearl necklace. (Currently, there are pages of Stella & Dot jewelry listed on eBay.)

On my feet again are my Marc Fisher flats. Oh, how I wish they would keep these shoes in their lineup. I would buy another pair.

With me in this picture is Debby, my friend and owner of What To Wear. We both chose to wear animal prints that night. Animal prints are trending toward the bright this spring. Debbie is embracing that and I think it looks great on her.

When filling in for the elementary secretary, I kept things simple:

My ¾ sleeve silk/wool black sweater has been a staple for about a dozen years now. Adding silver and pearl jewelry (and my black flats) rounded out my easy and comfortable outfit for my working day.

Versatile for another working day:

For working in the library, I added my old “Simply Vera” cardi/shrug. This type of wrap must be an educator’s thing because the elementary principal and an elementary teacher came by wearing theirs in various weights and colors.

Finishing the mix was simple black wrapped top, Nine West smoking flats, and my Stella & Dot Alexandria necklace.

After I got home, I started playing with my “Vera” and came up with the idea on the right.

And finally, what I wore just a couple days ago to our Missouri Retired Teachers Association meeting:

I paired the slacks with a black DKNY black blazer (Macy’s), my thrifted white top that has tucks going down the front and back (one of my most used tops), and silver studded grey suede smoking loafers by Rebecca Minkoff. I also added a necklace designed by another retired art teacher.

These slacks have turned out to be one of the most versatile and comfortable that I own. I really like the smaller printed pattern, which lends itself to an array of styles, from casual to dressy. I also find the smaller print appeals to friends who would never think about wearing a large animal print. Unfortunately, when I went on line to try to find a similar pair, I pretty much came up empty handed. It seems the spring styles are featuring large and less subtle printed patterns.
