The Versatility of a Long Cardigan

I’ve always been a fan of long cardigans. They are versatile and can be styled from casual to dressy. This dark green (with underlying brown tones) August Silk cardigan is a new addition to my collection. Different lighting affects how this cardigan appears, but, believe me, it’s dark green.

It’s been fun experimenting with ways to style it and I wanted to share a couple of ideas with you today. Color-wise, both of the looks below rely on neutrals to complement the dark green.

I picked brown, camels and denim blue to create a casual look: a very comfortable outfit for a home improvement shopping trip with Michael. To complete this “shopping day” look, I used a tan Pendleton merino turtleneck (from eBay). I added American Eagle jeans and a very old pair of brown suede booties. Lately, I’ve often carried my vintage Louie Vuitton bag that I found on The RealReal and this day was no exception. If you are considering adding a luxury bag to your collection, I highly recommend exploring all the pre-loved at The RealReal.
SaturdayNight
Again, I used neutrals for a Saturday night out with Michael. However, they are walking on the wild side. The tiger printed shell was thrifted, and my black pants are smooth black denim from Nordstrum’s. The black and tan stripped flats are Francis Valentine (Kate Spade’s company before her untimely death). For special occasions, I like to bring out one of my beloved pre-love Anthony Luciano bags. This one was scored on eBay.

I’ve discovered a new jewelry line; Lionette by Noa Sade. I’m wearing their Soho bracelet. I got a great deal for it on Black Friday.

This August Silk cardigan is an easy care 78% rayon and 28% nylon; just wash it in your gentle wash cycle. Also, being rayon and nylon makes it a three season piece.

I found my cardigan at a good friend’s boutique, What to Wear, on the central square in Butler, Missouri (about 50 miles south of Kansas City). I wasn’t able to find this exact cardigan online. However, I did find a few that were similar. Check out these links.

Something Else I’m Loving This Month

I’ve become a fan of Pacifica Cosmetics, a 100% vegan makeup and skincare brand. I picked up a tube of their Color Quench Lip TintColor Quench Lip Tint in the color Sugared Fig at Whole Foods. I love it and also found quite a bit of Pacifica products at my Ulta last week.

Thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed my ideas today…stay creative.

Until next time, Style on!

    1. Hi, Jodie-I’ve had a few over the years and think they are pretty handy. Thanks for dropping by. I’m trying to come out with a couple of posts each month. I took one long vacation, but think this is a good balance for me. Take care.

    1. Hi, Mireille !
One of my favorite delights with fashion is to bring a piece and just start pulling things out of my closet to see what works and what doesn’t. This cardigan was no exception and it’s fun to wear. Today’s hair is one of my favorite styles, I will have to say.
Thank you for dropping by and commenting. I’m just getting back into the swing of blogging and it’s nice to have conversations with folks.

    1. Hi, Brigid. You were ahead of the curve on this one. I’ve had a long duster and long sort-of cardigan (hard to describe that one really) but this is my first true long one. They seem to be handy-throw one on and you immediately have upped your game, it seems. When spring come around, I’m going to try and use it then too. Take care-Terri

  1. Terri, I adore these neutral shades on you and you have styled this lovely cardigan perfectly both ways. I have an overabundance of long cardigans that I used to wear frequently, but this winter I seem to have grown very fond of oversized cozy chunky knit pullover sweaters. But I know my tastes will shift so I am holding onto all of my long cardigans, too. Thanks so much for sharing and linking up.

    1. For some reason, I’ve just never invested in one. I do really like this one and will probably be wearing it a lot from now until late Spring. Thank you from running such a good Linkup-I’m really enjoying connecting to things again.

  2. What lovely ways to wear that cardigan! I like how you added a little print to each look, with the animal print top and the bag 🙂

I agree – you can find some real bargains on the real real! it’s a shame shipping is so expensive to get things here in Australia – but good for my wallet as it means I buy less, haha!

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend 🙂

    1. Hi, Mica-Thank you for dropping by. I think that’s the fun with a simple piece-you can do so much more mix and matching. I see you have a blog. I will have to jump over and say hello.

    1. Hi, Iris
I’ve just fallen in love with them too. Now, I’ve knitted a longer cardigan but it’s pretty heavy and not half as versatile as this light one. I will have to vote for the lightweights-they are much more versatile.
      Take care, Terri

  3. I love this long cardigan – it’s such a great colour. I own a few and find they are such a versatile addition to the wardrobe, plus easy and fuss free to wear. I find them great to wear when travelling as they are easy to pop into your bag when not needed.
