More Adventurous(?) & Linkup

April 2016, I purchased a simple Asiatica jacket at  Gloria Everhart’s Act II consignment shop. For decades, Gloria offered high end fashion to women and men in the Kansas City area. Very shortly after my purchase, Gloria at age 90 retired and Act II closed its doors. I miss it.

Designed cleanly and simply, my Asiatica jacket is a neutral shade of taupe. The fabric has a hand loomed texture, quite appealing to me. I don’t know for sure what the content of the fabric is; such info came on the original hang tag that came with the garment. From how the fabric feels, my guess is a linen/cotton mix.

This jacket a just good basic piece, I really like it and want to wear it. I’ve blogged about it previously. As time goes by, I find I am more adventurous in my styling with it.

The designer of my jacket was Fife White, who I know retired in 2001.

Technically, a vertical look here (above): the jacket has a boxy silhouette but I extended the line with a long patterned scarf (local boutique) and skinny jeans (2nd Loved-eBay). To continue the brown column started by my pants, I added a brown silk thrifted top.

Also, I played with patterns by using a patterned scarf and Sam Edelman plaid flats (2nd Loved from Poshmark).

How did I style the jacket in April, 2016?

Looking back, this styling (below) could be a solid work-day look. I threw on a bright stranded necklace and was good to go.

New Jewelry

I’ve finally added some eNVe pieces (below) by Kansas City’s very talented Ngan Vuong to to my jewelry collection. I like her structural, minimal, easy wearable pieces. Ngan was one of the featured designers on my PopUp post.

Today is 1st Friday so I’m keeping the blog short. Always a good time to celebrate slow fashion, on 1st Fridays we can remind ourselves to live kindly with Mother Earth and keep on the look-out for pre-loved, well-made clothes–rather than just adding to the land fills.

  1. Oh wow, just had to comment as two years ago (really like the jacket btw) your hair was exactly as mine is today, two-thirds grown out!     1. HI Penny, thank you for your constant support of my little linkup-I think you have been here every month! Two years ago, when I transitioned my blog solely to “advance style” I had to make a decision about my hair. I am a natural brunette, but lived by that old adage, that as you get older you need to get lighter. I can cite a long list of women I highly respect in the media who have gone blond over the years. But, I weighed being authentic against trying to look like all those other ladies, such as Barbara Streisand, Hilary, and Barbara Walters.

      When I started my style blogging, Judith, who had been a flaming redhead decided to go natural and I think that inspired me. I had been reading her blog a bit before I decided to take the leap and figured if a redhead could do, why couldn’t I?

      What had been such a hard thing to do for at least 15 years was worth trying. And here’s they cool thing, I get more complements on my hair being natural as I ever did on my hair being colored. I used to think when I saw an awesome silver headed Madonna, that if my hair could look that good, I would go natural. Imagine my surprise, when some woman (and I forget the person, time or place) who said, “if my hair could look like yours, I would go natural in a heartbeat).

      For some reason, I didn’t realize that you were making such a big transition, but for me it has been pretty exciting and rewarding. Personally, I think my hair looks better now spending $0 than the $60-100 that I was paying a hairdresser. I know you were not planning such a expansive response but going natural has been a really big deal in my self awareness and self appreciation.

  2. A classic jacket is a worthy wardrobe addition, even better when it’s pre-loved! I get so much satisfaction from finding good quality thrifted bargains. Wearing a scarf is a great trick for elongating a boxy jacket or top. Such a classic and elegant outfit. I love the orange bag!

    1. Thanks for stopping by Bernadette, When I saw that the selection of Asiatica items were 30% discounted at Act II, I was pretty determined to get one. As I remember, this jacket was the most reasonable thing on the rack. I don’t mind shorter jackets and in fact have quite a few, but I know that is a matter of personal preference. But, I still thought the scarf would help a little and as least give it a different look and like the results.

    You styled it very differently to your previous look from two years ago but I love both, it just shows how versatile it is.
    The eNVe necklaces are very striking and I love them, they add pizazz to your outfit ☺

    1. Thank you for posting that beautiful crocheted cardigan. It added so much color to the collage and really stand out. Ngan, is really a nice person and it took me a while to get some of her jewelry. Did you take a look at her runway stuff? That’s pretty incredible but don’t think any of that is in my future.
      The jacket is pretty basic and one of those colors, I’m just drawn because i feel so at home in neutral tans and browns. Quite honestly, I have to work a little harder on that color thing! Talk later, Terri xox

    1. I agree, Anne,about looking over the older posts. This is the second time, I’ve found something and decided to restyle it.

      For Ngan, I think you for appreciating her work. She is a wonderful person who I personally know and it took me a while to get some of her pieces but now that I do am going to try and incorporate them in my style ideas.
      Please do something with your jacket. I would love to see it.

  9. Fab and totally classy look, Terri, love it. Clever to extend the line of the shorter style jacket, I need to get rethinking some of my forgotten jackets. I have one or three in mind as I type.     1. Hi Mary, my hair is pretty grew out pretty stripey so don’t know what to call that. As far as the passport. That has been one of my New Year’s resolutions for the past 6 years. How hard can it be? But I never get around to doing it. I am the only one in this family that doesn’t have one. Even Michael has one! He had to get it to go fishing in Canada.

  13. This is just such an excellent look for you, Terri! Layering neutrals comes across very sophisticated and chic. I love seeing how your style has evolved from your earlier styling of the jacket. Everyone’s style evolution, I believe, really tells a story of their lives.
